Too many errors hurt Aggie volleyball team
By Wade Denniston
After a disappointing showing against Weber State University, the Utah State University women's volleyball team heads back out on the road for a match against fifth-ranked Long Beach State University on Thursday. On Monday night, Weber State (7-4) defeated USU in four games (15-13, 3-15, 15-7, 15-7) in the Spectrum. "It was a really bad loss," first-year Aggie head coach Tom Peterson said. It was a match in which USU (1-6) committed too many errors (38) and couldn't score when it needed to. "When we really didn't have a whole lot of pressure, we played real good," USU head coach Tom Peterson, "but we don't play better when it's 10-all, 14-all, when it's tight...pressure situations, so that's very dissapointing." As a team, the Aggies hit .098, while the Wildcats hit .203. "That's never going to win a match," Peterson said. "Our outsides can't swing at that many balls and have that low a percentage for us to ever win." Meanwhile, Long Beach State is coming off a win against Colorado (11-15, 15-12, 15-8, 15-11), a match played at the University of Hawaii in Honolulu. The Aggies could have their hands full against the 7-1 49ers, who recently had their 42-match winning streak snapped by Hawaii on Sept 16. The win-streak is the third-longest in NCAA history, behind Penn State University (44) and the University of California at Los Angeles (43). Last year, Long Beach State came to Logan and defeated USU in three games, 15-4, 17-15, 15-9. The 49ers lead the all-time series 19-6. The match is scheduled to start at 8:30 p.m. MST in The Pyramid. |
