Summerfest 2000 biggest ever By

Summerfest, which was held on the Mormon tabernacle grounds, was said to be the biggest ever. Summerfest is a fundraising arts festival where people come each year to sell arts and crafts to the public. Money earned at Summerfest goes to a free health clinic for those who don't have the benefits of health insurance. The events started on Thursday and ran through Saturday evening. On Saturday morning, there was a 8K run and a mile fun run. Participants who ran received a free pair of scrubs. An estimated 50 people attended this event. All ages came to run including a 70-year-old man who finished the 8K in front of some of the youngsters. Walking around Summerfest this year one could find all sorts of items to purchase for the household. Wall hangings, woodcarvings, metal shaping and more, were on sale to those walking around. One of the main attractions with arts and crafts was a little tent with art from Ecuador. The sidewalks were like a traffic jam in New York City. Bottlenecked at times from the top of the walkway to the bottom while live bands played in the background to crowds who detoured to the sound of the music. A small food court featured some of Logan's most popular places to eat including Horlacher's and the Formosa restaraunt. Also featured at the food court were funnell cakes, Domino's pizza, navajo tacos, and of course cotton candy. Saturday was packed with people from all over Utah and surrounding states includig Idaho and Arizona eager to to enjoy the atmosphere of a summer night in Logan. People of all ages and types were on hand to witness what was the largest Summerfest in its history. An estimated 25,000 people were at the festival. Doug Blauer brought his family to visit the arts and crafts show. "I like everything here. You can listen to the music and walk around to the different tents and look around. You can eat and have a good time no matter what or who you are," Blauer said. "It is just a relaxed atmosphere." One of the main attractions was the local acappella singing group Voice Male. Hundreds of fans and listeners gathered around the stage to listen to their unique, but funny style of songs. They performed for a two-hour span with every minute capturing the crowds attention. "Voice Male was my favorite part of Summerfest," Holly Cox, a monster Voice Male fan said. Any one who went to Summerfest will agree that this year's program topped them all. For those of you who missed it, remember that Summerfest is anannual event, so mark your calendars for next June.
