Today's word on journalism

Friday, February 24, 2006

"America loathes the White House press corps. This is especially true when the journalists preen for the television cameras, yell at the press secretary to achieve a dramatic effect, act bratty and petulant, appear openly disrespectful to the president and the vice president and generally behave like unruly 5-year-old children playing in a sandbox."

Lewiston council appoints Bodily to fill vacated seat

By Megan Sonderegger

January 26, 2006 LEWISTON -- Kim "Fizz" Bodily was appointed council member, commonly an elected position, in a tie-breaker Jan. 17 at Lewiston's City Council meeting.

Bodily said he was appointed to this position rather than elected because the position was left empty when Kelly Field, the former city council member, was elected mayor.

Bodily said all those interested in the position submitted their names to the recorder and were given time to speak to those who attended the meeting. He said council members voted and the outcome presented two candidates with an equal number of votes.

"The mayor broke the tie," Bodily said.

Mayor Kelly Field said he voted for Bodily because he had run in the general elections and had received higher votes than his opponent. "It looked like the will of the people," Field said.

He said he feels that Bodily will be a good council member because of his lifelong Lewiston residency, and his enthusiasm and desire to serve.

"He has concern and interest for the welfare of the people." Field said.

Bodily said he was appointed to fulfill the rest of Field's term and he plans to keep the city running smoothly and do what he can for the people while he is in office.
