Today's word on journalism

Friday, February 24, 2006

"America loathes the White House press corps. This is especially true when the journalists preen for the television cameras, yell at the press secretary to achieve a dramatic effect, act bratty and petulant, appear openly disrespectful to the president and the vice president and generally behave like unruly 5-year-old children playing in a sandbox."

Millville considers cemetery improvement project

By Shauna Smith

January 20, 2006 | MILLVILLE -- The Millville-Nibley Cemetery president submitted a water proposal to the City Council, which will improve irrigation and enhance the condition and appearance of the cemetery.

The project will consist of building a 40,000-gal. reservoir next to the cemetery, which will run 20 sprinkler heads for two or three hours a day. The proposed water line will run 450 feet into the street and will go through two residential backyards.

"I want you to know that I support you 100 percent," said Councilman Brian Jensen to the cemetery president.

Although every council member expressed their approval, the proposal will not be accepted until they receive a visual layout of the plan from the project engineer.

The council also granted a business license to Nancy Peterson to open up "Pete's Hot Rod and Restoration." Peterson collects and restores cars and by law can sell only three per year.

"We need to start liquidating some cars," Peterson said. "They are getting overwhelming."

The license was granted with the stipulation that Peterson contact the county fire department to perform a safety inspection of her property. The council also approved a 24-inch by 24-inch advertising sign for the business.

In other business, Rose Mary Jones was sworn in as the city recorder and Tara Hobbs was sworn in as treasurer.
