Inmate assaults sheriff's deputy at jail

By Holly Adams

December 9, 2005 | LOGAN -- An inmate at the Cache County Jail assaulted a deputy Wednesday night when they were trying to move him.

Sean Cottle, 34, kicked the deputy because he was unhappy with what the jail staff was doing, Lt. Brian Locke said, so he struggled and kicked the deputy. He also damaged some jail property.

At the time of the assault Cottle was under disciplinary action.

Cottle was arraigned Thursday on the new alleged charges of assault by a prisoner, as well as damage to jail property.

"It's something that rarely happens, but it does happen. Prisoners do assault the deputies," Locke said.

Cottle was recently sentenced for similar crimes, Locke said.
