Man's sentencing for assault scheduled for January

By Kathryn Kemp

December 7, 2005 | LOGAN -- A man who pleaded guilty to a domestic violence charge will be sentenced in January after a pre-sentence investigation.

Thane McGee pleaded guilty to domestic violence-simple assault, a class-A misdemeanor, on Tuesday at a pretrial conference. Prosecuting Attorney Bruce Ward said McGee assaulted his significant other by hitting her in the head several times and causing injury near her eye.

McGee said he is currently going to an anger management program, but Judge Thomas Willmore suggested that he switch over to domestic violence counseling, which is more long term. Willmore said he will recommend that no matter what else happens at the sentencing. "You might as well get started on that," he said.

McGee is scheduled to be sentenced Jan. 17.
