Mendon's holiday lights go on despite frigid temps

By Marty Archibald

December 7, 2005 | MENDON -- About 150 people braved freezing temperatures Tuesday night and came out to watch the city's Christmas lighting ceremony.

Children's cries for Santa could be heard as the crowd of people slowly arrived to the city's ball diamond with sounds of Christmas carols in the background. Santa was to have pictures taken with the kids and he also handed out candy canes to the crowd.

The ceremony started with cheers and screams from the crowd as the lights, arranged around the infield of the ball diamond, were lit up. The ceremony continued with the playing of Buglers' Holiday and with the singing of Christmas carols by some of the local children.

The ceremony ended with the crowd rushing to get the much-needed hot chocolate that was being served.
